Argyll Kayaks - sea kayak, sit on top and SUP boats, boards, paddles and kit

Open as usual for online and phone orders

Our Ayrshire showroom and shop is currently closed for refurbishment. We're still fully open for online orders (or phone orders on 01292 571 019) while work is underway!

Thank you for your support in 2021

Our first thoughts for this end of year catch up are a HUGE thank you to all our customers who have been so supportive through out this past year. Not one person shouted at me when I had to explain that once again their order had been delayed due to lack of stock/delivery delays/ boats stuck in the Suez Canal/ lack of materials etc etc. I was always braced for anger and upset, instead what I got was patience and understanding. As a small business owner that was special and means so much. Thank you.

With Covid restrictions, 2021 got off to an uncertain start with the shop closed right up until May. Up until then, we got on our bikes to operate a local delivery service whilst carrying on sending orders further afield by courier and post. Local deliveries were fun, getting out to see customers and enjoy the beauty of Argyll.

May was a fantastic month, not only weather wise but the shop opened again with things getting back to a bit of normality, Crinan Canal opened up again after extensive lock repairs and we were able to run boat demos again. Having been locked down for so long, kayakers were keen to get back on the water but we also had many new customers looking to try boats and enjoy the outdoors. It can be daunting getting on the water in a new kayak when you've never done it before so we enlisted the help of Dave Wilkinson, coach and guide. Dave would go out on the water as a support until folks were comfortable. No pressure, no sales pitch just a support to offer help and advice as it's all so new.
Dave also headed up "improver's sessions" where a small group of locals would meet up and launch from the slip at the shop in Ardishaig and he's also acted as a guide for tourists hiring kayaks from us. He knows the area well and can point out the wildlife and tell many interesting stories about the local area.

We had visitors to the shop including Jen and Jodie who were canoeing the Crinan Canal in a day and Sarah and Paul who were kayaking round Scotland- these were all being done for charity and we were so pleased to meet up with them.

September came and again, the shop had to close. This time it was due to Ann being in hospital. Ann's recovery meant the shop didn't open till November. Again, we were grateful to customers who were so understanding as emails and orders were all slower.

November also brought great excitement- new boats! We had waited so long for them and they finally arrived. Lots of shiny new boats from Sea Kayaking UK and P+H.

Delivery of stock proved difficult throughout the year but again, we are lucky to have patient customers! It certainly has been a year proving that good things come to those who wait!

We also took on some new brands- Thule- a well known and loved brand offering top quality transport solutions, Ainsworth Paddles- a UK company offering a range of paddles for all sorts of paddling and all at great prices.

Our hire and demo fleet also expanded during the year. We've always had the sea kayak demo fleet but we were being asked for more recreational kayaks etc. so we introduced rigid and inflatable SUPS along with a few sit on tops and more recreational kayaks. We often could be seen transporting kayaks, sit on tops and stand up paddle boards for customers wanting to explore the calm waters of Tayvallich and Carsaig Bay. It was a beautiful summer.

And so that was 2021!

We're now looking forward to 2022. We have already been chatting and have exciting plans to work on- watch this space!
